Thomas Fresh offers bagged pink dragon fruit, young coconut

Thomas Fresh, Calgary, Alberta, is offering two new packaged items: pink dragon fruit and young coconuts.

The new packages each feature two fruits. Thomas Fresh acknowledges in a news release that there’s no current evidence linking transmission of the coronavirus through food, but decided to offer the fruit packs because consumers are placing a higher value on packaged produce.

“Consumers are wanting to get in and out of stores quickly,” Roy Hinchey, CEO, said in the release. “We produced an easy to grab, recyclable bag to make the shopping experience that much easier for people. At Thomas Fresh we are always adapting and evolving with the way the modern world is changing.”?

There’s also a concern over how many people touch produce in the supply chain, according to the release, and packaged items are more popular for online ordering.

“We are so glad that we are able to put such a beautiful product on the shelves that gives people confidence in buying Thomas Fresh produce,” Vera Lok, import and export manager, said in the release.
