Mike Harris joins Generation Farms in watermelon sales

Generation Farms, Vidalia, Ga., has hired Mike Harris as watermelon sales director.

The company is growing seedless, seeded and mini watermelons on about 1,000 acres in Florida and Georgia, and 500 acres in the Carolinas, according to a news release. Generation Farms plans to expand with year-round availability.

Harris, who has a produce career that spans three decades, has worked every aspect in the business, including growing, business operations and sales. His first job at the age of 14 was pitching watermelons in fields, according to the release.

"Our watermelon program is a key component of our growth strategy and Mike has the experience and attributes to lead the effort," CEO Gastón Marquevich said in the release. "In addition to his category expertise and laser-like focus on fulfilling customer needs, Mike brings a ‘do what you do and do it better than anybody else’ attitude that fits in perfectly with our team culture and vision to create the future of fresh produce."
